Councilmember Dawn Luedtke is this week’s special guest
The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Montgomery County Councilmember Dawn Luedtke, who also serves as the member of the Council’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee and is the Council’s lead for Crisis Response; Melissa Rivera, communication specialist at Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS); and Rolando Santiago, Chief of Behavioral Health and Crisis Services at the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The show will air tomorrow, February 3 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).
DHHS and MCPS join the fight to combat and bring awareness about the crisis of overdose cases affecting our youth. According to MCPS, youth overdoses in Montgomery County have increased by 120% since 2021. Dr. Santiago will discuss important recommendations to use in a scenario of an overdose emergency. He will also explain the proper use of Narcan, a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Residents are invited to attend a free training to learn about reducing life-threatening overdoses with the use of Naloxone. For more information, click here. Furthermore, Rivera will provide information on MCPS’ plan of action to educate students and parents on opioids and control the current crisis.
The show will conclude with special guest Councilmember Luedtke who represents the newly created District 7. Luedtke is a community advocate, former assistant attorney general, certified law enforcement trainer and expert on healthy schools and public safety. Luedtke will discuss her experience in local government and her goals and aspirations for District 7, which includes Ashton, Brookville, Damascus, Derwood, Laytonsville, Montgomery Village, Olney, Redland, Sandy Spring and northeast Montgomery County.
The Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.
Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
