For Immediate Release: Monday, February 23, 2009
With a grant from the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention, the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) will conduct a multifaceted hotel compliance check program throughout this year’s prom season, which begins in March and goes into June. Drawing the Line on Under 21 Alcohol Use, Montgomery County Police, Project Prom and the State’s Attorneys Office are partnering with DLC in this effort.
DLC inspectors will meet with hotel managers in the county to discuss responsible alcohol policies. Tip sheets, educational material and high school prom schedules will be distributed. Free regulatory training will be offered during the alcohol license renewal period in March.
In an effort to combat under-21 alcohol use, DLC launched the “Keeping It Safe” campaign in 2004. The comprehensive educational program targets adults with host responsibility information and point-of-sale materials for licensed establishments. The program also promotes SAFEline (301-670-SAFE) – a number for callers to report underage drinking and adult providers – and SAFEnet (safenet@montgomerycountmd.gov), where individuals can email alcohol-related questions and receive updated alcohol prevention information. In addition, ID checking calendars and window decals, as well as free technical assistance seminars, have been made available to all alcohol licensed establishments.
