ROCKVILLE, Md., April 27, 2023—The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Mayra Cruz-Solís, civic engagement specialist and Hispanic outreach liaison for the Montgomery County Council; Fatima Coreas, community engagement specialist at Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP); Adriana Sánchez, coordinator and PSTA Spanish instructor at the Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCPD) Hispanic Community Academy. The show will air tomorrow, April 28 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM) and is streamed on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music. 

Since 1989, MHP’s mission has been to preserve and expand access to quality affordable housing. Today, MHP provides more than 2,800 quality affordable homes in Montgomery County and neighboring communities. Ms. Coreas will discuss the application process, eligibility and documentation needed to obtain assistance with affordable housing. MHP also offers educational programs for residents to develop skills and expand their opportunities. 

The second half of the show will focus on the upcoming MCPD’s Hispanic Community Academy, established to educate community members about the role of law enforcement. The program, which is offered in Spanish, is available to County residents at no cost. The program aims to address issues including cultural differences and historic perceptions of law enforcement in other countries. The program is part of an effort by MCPD to educate the Hispanic community about the importance of local laws and police operations in Montgomery County. The Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. 

Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
