The Working Parents Assistance Program (WPA) will also be discussed

The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Óscar Méndez, program manager with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), and César Ramirez, outreach coordinator for the Working Parents Assistance Program (WPA) at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The show will air on Friday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM) and is streamed on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music

This week's edition of En Sintonía, will begin with a discussion about the importance of fire prevention. This year’s National Fire Prevention Week is focused on preventing kitchen fires. MCFRS is collaborating with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to educate the public on fire safety measures and ways to prevent cooking fires. To ensure community safety, MCFRS will be offering free house inspections. Montgomery County residents who wish to schedule an appointment, are encouraged to contact 311 or visit the Wheaton Community Recreation Center on Wednesday, Oct. 11 starting at 10 a.m.

The show will conclude with a discussion of the Working Parents Assistance Program including eligibility requirements and the documents needed to apply. This program, which is offered through DHHS, provides financial assistance to eligible Montgomery County residents to cover the cost of childcare education.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.

Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
