The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) will also be discussed

ROCKVILLE, Md., November 9, 2023—The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-González, who serves as the chair of the Council's Economic Development (ECON) Committee; Edith Lozada, Spanish communications specialist and Spanish language public information officer at Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), and Naddia Clute, small business navigator at Montgomery County’s Business Center. The show will air on Friday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM) and is streamed on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music

The Drone as First Responder Pilot Program received unanimous approval for $350,000 in funding from the Montgomery County Council, after being recommended by the County Executive and the Montgomery County Police Department. This program is intended to assist the police and first responders with emergency situations by providing support before officers arrive on the scene. The pilot program will be implemented in Wheaton and Silver Spring, which were selected based on staffing and crime trend analyses. Councilmember Fani-González will discuss this pilot program.

The second half of the show will focus on the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) and the changes in the curriculum for ninth graders at MCPS. Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, for students entering the ninth grade, the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment for science and government will count as 20 percent of the student’s final grade in the respective high school level biology and government course. Ms. Lozada will explain the changes in the curriculum and how MCPS is working to inform parents about these modifications.

Identity, Inc., a non-profit organization, is organizing the Winter Entrepreneurship Expo on Nov. 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This event aims to showcase local entrepreneurs and provide information about the available resources for small businesses. The expo will be held at the Wheaton Headquarters of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, which is located at 2425 Reedie Dr. in Silver Spring. The Montgomery County Business Center, led by Naddia Clute, will also participate in the expo to inform small businesses about the resources available within the county. Those interested in participating are encouraged to RSVP.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.

Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
