The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Ride On bus service was ranked second in the nation in the 2024 Riders Choice Award’s Most Popular Agency category.
More than 103,000 transit riders from across the nation participated in the annual survey conducted by a Montreal-based company called Transit App. Winners in the Most Popular Agency category received top votes for being the transit agency riders would most recommend to their family and friends.
"We are constantly working to improve service for our riders and we appreciate their support," said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. "With a network spanning over 80 routes and innovative services like the Ride On extRa, Ride On Flex and the Flash Bus Rapid Transit, Ride On is a reliable and comfortable option for commuters, students and residents."
MCDOT’s Ride On bus service also was recognized recently for a 20 percent growth in ridership, ranking second in the nation among transit systems serving between 15 million and 50 million riders annually by The American Public Transportation Association (APTA).
"This award is a testament to our bus operators," said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin. "They are a dynamic group who care about people, and it shows. They work hard to keep Montgomery County moving."
Ride On has a trip planning app, Ride On Trip Planner, available on Apple and iOS to plan trips easily and get real-time updates. Ride On bus fare is only $1 and monthly passes are $22.50 using SmarTrip, cash or tokens. Seniors 65 or older, persons with disabilities and youth 18 and under ride free using specialized SmarTrip cards.
