The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will begin the Brink Road Bridge Project, which spans Seneca Creek, for resurfacing work beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, July 25. The project is scheduled to take four days to complete, weather and operational conditions permitting.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic throughout the duration of the paving project. A detour map is available to assist drivers in identifying alternate routes.

The immediate project includes milling, paving, and resurfacing operations designed to extend the lifespan of the bridge and ensure a safer and smoother travel experience for residents and commuters in the Gaithersburg area.

MCDOT has plans to rehabilitate the Brink Road bridge next summer, before it becomes a safety hazard. The existing bridge, originally constructed in 1936 and reconstructed in 1972, is in poor condition. The future project is in preliminary design now. A public hearing was held in April 2025, and feedback from that hearing will be considered in the final design phase. The future bridge plans include the accommodation of two 11-foot travel lanes with 6-foot-wide bike lane shoulders along both sides of the roadway and an increase in elevation to reduce flooding.

“This resurfacing project is part of our ongoing efforts to keep Montgomery County’s infrastructure viable,” said Chris Conklin, Director of the Montgomery County Department of Transportation. “Repairs like those at Brink Road Bridge help extend the life of our roads and bridges and reduce long-term disruptions for travelers.”

To further minimize impact, MCDOT has applied for a Temporary Noise Waiver through the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to allow night work.

MCDOT appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation during this project.
