Department of Liquor Control Highlights Students in Current Issue of SAFEnet Newsletter

For Immediate Release: Monday, January 4, 2010

Montgomery County’s Department of Liquor Control (DLC) is launching a new monthly feature in its SAFEnet electronic newsletter called “Students Keeping it Safe.” SAFEnet is a monthly newsletter geared toward educating parents on youth alcohol prevention and contains the latest news on under-21 alcohol use. “Students Keeping it Safe” will honor a student, or small group of students, who are making a positive impact on the local community. The January 2010 issue features the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) group at Clarksburg High School.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to combat under-21 alcohol use in our community and keep parents up-to-date and fully informed on this issue, it’s important to recognize and highlight both students and programs that have a positive impact in Montgomery County,” said DLC Licensure Regulation and Education Division Chief Kathie Durbin.

SAFEnet is distributed monthly to Montgomery County Parent/Teacher Associations and to parents who have requested to be placed on the distribution list.

To submit a student’s name or group for the “Students Keeping it Safe” feature in a future issue of SAFEnet, contact Melissa Romeo at 240-777-1989 or email melissa.romeo@montgomerycountymd.gov. To subscribe to the SAFEnet e-newsletter, email SAFEnet@montgomerycountymd.gov.
