Montgomery County Hosts Eighth Annual Responsible Retailing Forum

For Immediate Release: Thursday, April 22, 2010

Montgomery County’s Department of Liquor Control (DLC) this week hosted the eighth annual Responsible Retailing Forum. More than 25 states were represented at the two-day national conference held in Rockville.

The annual conference promotes conversations regarding alcohol regulations and education. Stakeholders, including representatives of the alcohol industry, as well as prevention and community coalition members from across the nation, discussed collaboration and cooperation with regard to under-21 alcohol prevention and habitual alcohol abuse. Participants identified and shared best practices to prevent underage sales of age-restricted products and to examine the impacts of these policies from the diverse perspectives of the different stakeholders.

“Montgomery County has been identified as a model of this type of collaboration,” said Kathie Durbin, chief of DLC’s Division of Licensure, Regulation and Education. “Hosting this conference is one way to reaffirm our commitment to sustaining healthy communities and safe businesses.”

This national initiative is supported by the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association and Diageo, the world’s premium drinks business.
