Montgomery Councilmember Leventhal Welcomes Supreme Court Decision Upholding the Affordable Care Act

For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 28, 2012

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 28, 2012—Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal welcomed today’s U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act. Councilmember Leventhal, who chairs the Health and Human Services Committee of the County Council, spearheaded the 2005 formation of the Montgomery Cares network of health clinics for the uninsured.

“Montgomery County has provided the resources to make sure that 30,000 uninsured residents each year will have access to health care, but the County can’t go it alone,” said Councilmember Leventhal. “Today’s Supreme Court decision means that, beginning in 2014, the federal and state governments will finally help us to provide access to care for our uninsured residents. I congratulate Chief Justice John Roberts, a Montgomery County resident, for placing his judicial responsibilities first, and I am deeply grateful for the leadership of President Barack Obama.”
