Montgomery Councilmember Leventhal to Speak at Global Trade Forum on Feb. 5 in Rockville

For Immediate Release: Monday, February 4, 2013

ROCKVILLE, Md., February 4, 2013—Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal will participate in a Global Trade Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Johns Hopkins University campus in Rockville that seeks to emphasize trade opportunities with Brazil. Councilmember Leventhal, who speaks Portuguese—the primary language of Brazil—will introduce Brazilian Ambassador Mauro Vieira, who will be the event’s keynote speaker.

The forum will focus on not only the opportunities available for trade with Brazil, but also on the best methods of doing business with that nation. The forum will begin at 8 a.m. and will include roundtable discussions starting at 9:30 a.m. It will take place in Building 3 of the campus located at 9605 Medical Center Drive in Rockville.

A discussion beginning at 8:10 a.m. will feature Michael Dearing, the executive vice president of project finance for Marriott International; Parag Sheth, director of High Street Partners; and Braeden Young of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The discussion will be moderated by Roberto Trujillo, president and CEO of TruBios, LLC.

“Brazil is one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world,” said Councilmember Leventhal, who has visited Brazil three times. “Its economy is the largest in Latin America, and as we seek to grow our economy in Montgomery County on an international scale, pursuing—and understanding—business in countries like Brazil is essential. Events like the Global Trade Forum will help in that pursuit.”

The forum is part of the Global Trade Initiative that is a partnership of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Johns Hopkins University, the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development and the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.
