For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 29, 2013
In an effort to prevent underage drinking in Montgomery County during graduation season and into the summer months, the Department of Liquor Control (DLC) is teaming up with industry leader Anheuser-Busch to launch an educational effort aimed at alcohol retailers.
The materials, provided in kind by Montgomery Eagle and Anheuser-Busch, will be distributed by DLC as an expansion of the award-winning “Keeping It Safe” public education campaign designed to educate businesses and the community on alcohol laws and social host responsibility. The retailer-focused materials include ID checking guides, clocks, clerk buttons and posters featured at the point of purchase and carrying the Anheuser-Busch ID tagline reminding retailers to be vigilant about checking IDs.
“The Department of Liquor Control will continue to act as a resource for businesses licensed to serve and sell alcohol,” said DLC Division Chief Kathie Durbin. “We are delighted to collaborate with Anheuser-Busch, and together we will do all we can to prevent the sale of alcohol to individuals under the age of 21.”
The materials can be viewed online at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/dlc under Licensing, Regulation and Education, Resources.
“We are proud to partner with the Department of Liquor Control as we continue to promote alcohol responsibility programs with both consumers and retailers in an effort to help prevent underage drinking,” said Carol Huebner, region director, Corporate Social Responsibility, Anheuser-Busch. “Delivering the message that an ID will be requested at the point of purchase will help deter youth access to alcohol.”
