Montgomery County Hosts Sociable City Leadership Summit

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 21, 2013

The Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) will partner with the Responsible Hospitality Institute (RHI) to host a Sociable City Leadership Summit on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25 at the Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place. Experts and practitioners will come together to review best practices to aid in planning, managing and measuring dining and entertainment districts.

“Montgomery County is pleased again this year to serve as the host location for the annual Sociable City Leadership Summit 2013,” said DLC Director George Griffin. “As we consider how best to plan, support, manage and regulate the ‘nightlife economy’ in our own community, it is quite appropriate that we are once again hosting this summit. Like many jurisdictions, Montgomery County is currently actively engaged in a process of self-examination and community discussion about the future of our nighttime economy.”

The Sociable City Leadership Summit is structured as a seminar and group discussion event. In addition to the presentation by RHI President Jim Peters, guest speakers include Heather Dlhopolsky, chair, Montgomery County Nighttime Economy Task Force; Nancy Navarro, County Council president; Hans Reimer, County Council member; Chief Cathy Lanier, D.C. Metropolitan Police; and Captain John Damskey, Montgomery County Police.
