Fifth District Officers Arrest Armed Domestic Violence Suspect

For Immediate Release: Friday, August 2, 2024

Gaithersburg, MD - On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at approximately 7:05 p.m., the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center received a call from a person reporting a domestic violence incident involving a firearm in the 11400 block of Appledowre Way.

The caller stated that her sister was being held against her will by her boyfriend who was believed to have a gun, and that a child was also inside.

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police 5th District station responded to the location, and upon arrival, received no answer at the door. They then asked the caller to contact the victim by phone and learned that the victim was attempting to leave the home, but the suspect threatened to shoot her if she did.

During this time, officers heard a female scream from inside the residence. Approaching the address, officers observed the victim and the suspect, 50-year-old Albeniz Victor Bonilla, outside of the residence with a handgun visible in Bonilla’s waistband.

The officers were able to successfully disarm Bonilla and he was taken into custody without incident. The victim and the child were unharmed. It was later determined that Bonilla is a prohibited felon and was illegally in possession of an unregistered 9mm handgun.

Bonilla, of Germantown, faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

He is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
