Collision Reconstruction Unit Investigates Shady Grove Road Fatal Collision
For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 6, 2024
Gaithersburg, MD- Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
At approximately 9:53 p.m., 1st and 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to Shady Grove Rd., north of the intersection of Briardale Rd. for the report of a single-vehicle collision.
The preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that 20-year-old Saraha Aminata Tumoe of Gaithersburg, was driving a gray 1999 Acura TL northbound on Shady Grove Rd., when for reason still under investigation, she lost control of the Acura, left the roadway, hit a curb, rolled over on its side, before hitting a tree in the center median.
Tumoe, the only occupant in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, and CRU detectives are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call (240) 773-6620.
