Detectives Investigate South Valley Park Shooting

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that occurred on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the South Valley Park in the 19000 block of Watkins Mill Road in Montgomery Village. Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects involved in this crime.

 

At approximately 5:42 p.m., 6th District officers responded to the location for the report of a shooting.

 

The investigation has revealed that a shooting occurred between two groups of people in the parking lot of the park while a football game was taking place on the field. A 17-year-old male who was in the parking lot was struck by a bullet. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Three vehicles in the parking lot were also struck by bullets.

 

Officers located shell casings in the parking lot of the park and on a grassy area near the 10100 block of Little Pond Place.

 

This is an active and ongoing investigation. There are no suspects in custody at this time, and this is believed to be an isolated incident.
