Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Investigative Section have arrested and charged 65-year-old Gregory Jerome Stamps, of Manassas, Virginia, with two residential burglaries that occurred on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in the 6000 block of Brookes Lane in Bethesda.
The investigation by detectives has revealed that at approximately 2:05 p.m., a homeowner received a motion sensor alert on his cell phone and observed through his home security cameras a suspect, later identified as Stamps, attempting to break into his home, which was unoccupied at that time. The homeowner called 9-1-1, reported the crime and provided the description of the suspect.
Upon arriving on scene, 2nd District officers observed a broken window at the home and saw Stamps, who matched the description of the suspect, walking away from the home. Officers chased after Stamps for a short distance and apprehended him.
The on-scene investigation led officers to determine that Stamps broke into the home and stole property and money.
A search of Stamps revealed the stolen property and an undisclosed amount of money belonging to the homeowner.
Moments later, another homeowner who lives on Brookes Lane approached the officers and informed them that property and money had just been stolen from their home. Officers located the homeowner’s property and money inside Stamps’ vehicle and determined that Stamps had also forced entry into the second victim’s home and stolen money and property.
Stamps is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he has been charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, fourth degree burglary, resisting arrest and malicious destruction of property. He is being held without bond.
