County Executive Leggett’s Remarks at the DLC Awards Ceremony

Public Safety Headquarters, 100 Edison Park Drive, Gaithersburg

As prepared

Good morning, and thank you for inviting me here this morning as we honor the “employees of the year” from the Department of Liquor Control.

I want to first acknowledge the importance of this event. It has been more than 20 years since we have held an employee awards ceremony for DLC.

Under our new management team, there have been other changes taking place in the Department as we strive to innovate operations, increase efficiency, continue to protect the public and always deliver the highest level of customer satisfaction and service.

You are here today because your peers have recognized your contributions and commitment to excellence in the Department as we strive to attain the goals I just mentioned.

That’s significant because your outstanding efforts help define the reputation and success of the DLC, and that contributes to the success of our County. As you should be aware, the profits generated by you are reinvested into the General Fund to offset the costs of projects and programs that County tax dollars would otherwise cover, including education, infrastructure and public safety needs.

I look forward to seeing this recognition ceremony -where we honor the best of the best - inspire     DLC employees, and County employees as a whole, to strive for even higher levels of success in the future, because we all benefit from such growth.

The employees being honored today stand out among many exceptional nominees, and I appreciate their commitment and dedication to serving Montgomery County.

Your family and friends should be proud. You are being recognized because you are a role model, and I am proud to be here to congratulate you for a job well done.

Now I am going to turn it back to Edgar so we can begin the individual recognitions.

Thank you!
