County Executive's Remarks at the Get Real Health Press Event

As prepared

Good morning.

We are here today to celebrate the latest achievement of Get Real Health -- a great Montgomery County success story.

About 10 years ago, Robin Wiener (Wee-ner), Jason Harmon and Mark Heaney (Hay-knee) started a company right here in Rockville.  The new venture was right in the middle of one of the most growing and dynamic fields imaginable – health IT.

The need to keep patient records in electronic form and make them accessible to many medical providers is crucial to improving health while still providing patient privacy.

Coordinating medical records is a very hard technical problem to solve, but Get Real Health has emerged as a world leader in solving it.

In 2010, five years after its founding, Get Real Health was the Maryland Incubator Company of the year.  Now, 10 years after its founding, Get Real Health is still in Rockville – in fact, it is right across the street from where we are standing.

The company has long outgrown its startup phase.

It now employs about 60 people, half of them in the U.S. and half in other countries.

Get Real Health is installing major projects around the U.S.

It also is having great success around the world – from Canada to the U.K. to India to Australia and, of course, to Sweden, which is the project we will be hearing about today.

Along the way, Montgomery County was pleased to be a partner as the company developed.

They were part of our incubator program for about 3 and a half years.

As Robin will tell you, we were with her team every step of the way, helping to find office space and providing whatever assistance we could.

Beyond the success of the company, Get Real Health is doing something more.

Get Real Health made it a point to find vendors who are also right here in Montgomery County.

That’s the perfect way to keep our business ecosystem healthy and thriving.

My congratulations to Robin, Jason and Mark and their team for all of their efforts.
