Good morning! October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month; and I want to recognize all of you for the help and support that everyone who is part of the Women Who Care Ministries provides to victims and survivors of domestic violence.
Montgomery County also has two very good resources people can access to get help – the Family Justice Center and the Abused Persons Program.
As you know, many victims and survivors of domestic violence are not aware that help is available. You are building that awareness every day and I want to let you know what the County is doing too.
This month, we will be telling people about County services – in bus ads, public service announcements, posters and digital screens (all in English and Spanish). And, we will promote these messages through social media.
Survivors have been a key part of this effort. Two bravely appeared in the video PSAs we’ll circulate soon. Other survivors helped us select messages that might encourage more people to seek help.
We also devoted our recent Make a Difference TV show to our domestic violence support programs, so that viewers can learn not only about volunteering but also about what services the programs offer and how to get help.
Thank you again for all you do. Together, we can encourage people to get help and provide them support.
