As prepared
Good morning!
I am pleased to be part of this ribbon-cutting ceremony here at Montgomery College. I like groundbreakings; but what I REALLY love are ribbon-cuttings!
The opening of Science Center West is the culmination of a 20-year-plus project to bring 21st century learning facilities to the Rockville Campus — home to America’s largest engineering program at a community college.
It is the third building of the now complete math/science complex, which includes the new Science Center opened in 2011 and the modernized Science East.
Within its walls is offered 5 computer labs; 12 classrooms; an experimental learning lab; and a math emporium based on the highly successful Virginia Tech Math Emporium.
There are also areas throughout the STEM Complex for informal teaching, learning, and tutoring in alcoves and other spaces. This is truly something special that will pay dividends to our students, our residents, and our businesses for years to come.
As many of you are aware, we are home to strong federal research labs, including the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Montgomery College, with its strong programs in biotechnology, engineering and a variety of other STEM fields, is leading the charge in growing that workforce.
Thank you!
