Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security to Coordinate Full-Scale Mass Casualty/Active Assailant Training Exercise With Montgomery College

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 2, 2018

Thursday, May 3, 2018; 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Montgomery College, Rockville Campus

Parking lots 11 & 12 & the Parilla Performing Arts Center

51 Mannakee Street

On Thursday, May 3 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will coordinate a full-scale Active Assailant-based training exercise with Montgomery College - Rockville Campus, Montgomery County public safety agencies, and area hospitals.

The emergency response and lock-down exercise will include real-life scenarios with moulaged (applied mock injuries for the purpose of training) victims, emergency vehicles, and transport of “victims” to area hospitals.

The training exercise will be confined to a portion of the college’s Parking Lot 11 and a small portion of Parking Lot 12, directly in front of and including the Parilla Performing Arts Center.

The exercise will test the College’s preparedness, test all alert messaging systems on the Rockville Campus, and the college’s incident coordination with the community, County agencies and area hospitals.

Montgomery College students and staff, the nearby residential community, and news organizations are advised that the sounds, activities, and equipment with large-scale public safety response that might be seen and heard in the vicinity of the scenarios on May 3, are for proactive training purposes only and are not based on any specific threat. The exercises will not affect real public safety response to an emergency.

Additional information can be found on the Montgomery College website.
