County Officials and Community Partners Will Remember Homeless Individuals at Memorial Service

County officials including County Executive Isiah Leggett and County Councilmember George Leventhal will be joined by community non-profits who partner with the County to memorialize homeless individuals who died in 2017 and 2018.  At the first community memorial service held in 2017, 50 individuals in the community were recognized. 

 

Officials will also announce a community-wide effort to end homelessness for families with children by 2020 In the 2018 Point-in-Time (PIT) survey published by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG)there are 840 individuals experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County and 85 families with children experiencing homelessness.  

 

In the last 18 months, the County and partners have worked to end chronic homelessness in the community.  Substantial progress has been made towards reaching the goal and 381 individuals have been placed in permanent supportive housing. 

 

Note to Editors:  Individuals who have experienced homelessness, as well as non-profit groups who work to end homelessness will be available for interviews.
