For Immediate Release: Friday, May 10, 2019
County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Nancy Navarro, State and County officials and community members will participate in an audit walk to identify pedestrian and traffic improvements that need to be made in Wheaton. The walk will start at the Wheaton Urban District, located at 11435 Grandview Avenue, at the corner of Grandview and Blueridge avenues.
The "Make Wheaton Walkable! Safety Walk" is organized by the Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee and Montgomery County Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Traffic Safety Advisory Committee to highlight opportunities for pedestrian and traffic improvements on State highways and County roadways in and around the Wheaton Central Business District, including the need for basic safety and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliance.
Community members will walk in small groups to conduct the "walk audits," allowing for direct community engagement and feedback for consideration. These groups will also provide an opportunity for State and County staff to discuss recent improvements made in the Wheaton Central Business District as part of the State Highway Administration's new Urban-Mobility Program.
Wheaton neighbors and businesses are encouraged to participate and are asked to RSVP via the EventBrite link, below, to provide an accurate count for planning purposes.
