County Executive Elrich to Introduce New Economic Development Team at Business Connect Launch in Bethesda

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will be joined by Maryland Commerce Secretary Kelly Schulz; Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) CEO Ben Wu; County Council President Sidney Katz; County Councilmembers Gabe Albornoz, Andrew Friedson, Hans Riemer and Will Jawando; Visit Montgomery President & CEO Kelly Groff; and the County’s business resource partners at the official launch of Business Connect in Bethesda.

The Business Connect program is an initiative designed to grow and nurture small businesses in the County. The program, launched in 2019, offers classes, counseling, and connections for businesses ​in the communities where they are located. Services are being expanded to the Bethesda-Chevy Chase regional area after rolling out previously in East County, Silver Spring and Upcounty. Montgomery County has more than 40 companies on Inc. Magazine’s 2019 Inc. 5000: The Most Successful Companies in America, which is the most of any County in the State of Maryland. The addition of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase regional area to the Business Connect program will help the County grow more small businesses in an area that is going through a development renaissance led by the future Purple Line and new Marriott headquarters.

County Executive Elrich will also announce the reorganization of current staff to create an Office of Business Services to improve efficiency, visibility and coordination within County Government in order to help ensure future economic development success throughout the County. This is another action by the County to create a 21st century economic development climate. Ben Wu, who recently joined the MCEDC, will also introduce new members of his team and MCEDC initiatives.
