Aspen Hill Neighborhood Greenway

Intersection of Denley Road and Holdridge Road -- at the Southern End of the Aspen Hill

Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Director Chris Conklin and local officials will announce MCDOT’s transformation of Holdridge Road in Aspen Hill and Grove Street in Silver Spring into temporary “neighborhood greenways.” Those are roadways that welcome pedestrians and bicyclists while limiting vehicles to local traffic only. Greenways are part of MCDOT’s “Shared Streets” program to support the County’s COVID-19 recovery.

At the event, MCDOT will also announce a program that gives any County resident the ability to request bringing a smaller version of Shared Streets to their neighborhood.

In addition, MCDOT will share preliminary findings from its Shared Streets survey. More than 800 responses were received.

The Aspen Hill Greenway modifies 1.2 miles of Holdridge Road from Olympic Street to Urbana Drive. The Grove Street Greenway in Silver Spring modifies 0.5 miles from Bonifant Street to Sligo Avenue.

NOTE: MCDOT employees will be in attendance with their families enjoying biking and walking the greenway, while demonstrating safe and appropriate behavior and following physical distancing and congregating guidelines.

PARKING AND ACCESS: Neighborhood street parking is limited. The intersection is close to the Glenmont Metro Station and its parking facilities. Limited tent coverings will be available in case of rain.
