Media Adviory: Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation to Launch ‘Flash,’ Maryland’s First Bus Service of its Kind, on Wednesday, Oct. 14, in Silver Spring

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Sidney Katz, Council Vice President and Transportation and Environment Committee Chair Tom Hucker, Department of Transportation Director Chris Conklin and other officials will launch “Flash,” the first bus service of its kind in Maryland, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, in Silver Spring. Ceremonies will take place in front of the entire Flash fleet (16 new buses) that will be lined up adjacent to the Briggs Chaney Flash station. The event will end with a ceremonial start of service with buses pulling out together and dispersing to serve passengers for the first time.

NOTE: The event is open to media members only to keep numbers of attendees small to minimize the potential for public health risks. All attendees must wear face coverings. Safe distancing protocols will be enforced.

EVENT: Dedication of Montgomery County’s Flash bus service along US Route 29.

DATE: Wednesday, Oct. 14. 10:30 a.m.

LOCATION: Briggs Chaney Park and Ride Lot. 3310 Gateshead Manor Way, Silver Spring (Fairland). Park and Ride lot is next to the Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center.

MEDIA DETAILS: Media members will have an opportunity to speak with the officials and get video inside the buses before and after the event.

PARKING: Onsite parking is available in the Park and Ride lot.
