Montgomery County Weekly Media Briefing Will Focus on the MCFRS Urban Search and Rescue Team Deployment to Hawaii & Preparing for an Emergency

This week Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is out of the area. Chief Administrative Officer Rich Madaleno will take his place, delivering the weekly update and answering media questions during this week’s virtual media briefing starting at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

He will be joined by Captain Jason Light, on-site  commander of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service’s (MCFRS) Urban Search and Rescue Team that was recently deployed by FEMA as part of Maryland Task Force 1 in response to deadly wildfires in Hawaii. MCFRS deployed 50 members, and two canines, to the FEMA team. Luke Hodgson, director of the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, will also join the briefing to discuss Emergency Preparedness Month. Public Health Officer Dr. Kisha Davis will update the community on the slight rise in Covid-19 cases.

The weekly media briefings offer reporters an opportunity to discuss important issues with key members of the County Government. Members of the media who wish to participate in the virtual media briefing should RSVP to Tracy O’Connor at tracy.o'[email protected] by 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 30. Login information will be provided after receipt of the RSVP. Login information for the media briefing remains the same from week to week. There is no need to RSVP each week unless you are new to the call.
