Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Enterprise Community Partners and Truist will announce a new affordable housing initiative that focuses on faith-based organizations. The launch event is a “Clarion Call” workshop for faith-based organizations that will take place at Mount Jezreel Baptist Church, 420 University Blvd. East in Silver Spring at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 2.
The goal of the Faith-Based Development Initiative is to help houses of worship develop and transform underutilized land owned by faith-based organizations into affordable housing for the community. The Clarion Call workshop will be an opportunity for Faith leaders to learn about the program and how to apply. Montgomery County and Truist are investing $585,000 in the Faith-Based Development Initiative to help houses of worship create 750 affordable homes.
As many cities across the U.S. are challenged to meet the demand for affordable housing, a recent trend has faith-based organizations intervening to fulfill the need. Houses of worship are transforming their underutilized land into affordable housing and other community amenities. Developing unused land can help faith-based organizations not only build value to fund their mission to serve their community but also impact the lives of people in their community seeking affordable housing.
The Clarion Call event sponsored by Montgomery County, Truist and Enterprise’s Faith-Based Development Initiative is designed to help faith leaders at houses of worship learn about the intricacies of real estate development by providing extensive training and technical assistance, funding, peer sharing and access to experts.
