WHAT MONTGOMERY COUNTY VOTERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CASTING A PROVISIONAL BALLOT

For Immediate Release: Sunday, October 27, 2024

As of Saturday, October 26, 2024, during the first three days of early voting, 60,126 voters have cast their ballots, and over 2,500 Provisional ballots have been submitted by voters at one of Montgomery County’s 14 early voting centers. Most Provisional ballots being submitted during early voting are from voters who requested a Mail-in ballot but decided to vote in person. Voting provisionally requires additional paperwork and time at the polls. Voters who have requested a Mail-in ballot, and later decide to vote in person at an early voting center, or at their polling place on Election Day are required to vote a Provisional ballot. Provisional ballots will be counted after Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and only after elections officials have confirmed that the voter did not already vote in that election.

HOW TO RETURN YOUR VOTED MAIL-IN BALLOT

As of October 26, 2024, 184,534 Montgomery County registered voters have requested a Mail-in ballot, and of those, 86,311 have been returned. The Montgomery County Board of Elections is urging all voters who requested a Mail-in ballot to vote their ballot, sign the Voter’s Oath, and take the Mail-in ballot to any U.S. Postal Service mailbox or one of 58 official Montgomery County drop boxes. Mail-in ballots returned by U.S. mail, must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service by Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Post offices generally close by 5 p.m.
