MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS RECOMMENDS CONTINUATION OF 58 BALLOT DROP BOX LOCATIONS FOR THE 2026 GUBERNATORIAL ELECTIONS

For Immediate Release: Monday, April 21, 2025

For Immediate Release: Monday, April 21, 2025

On Monday, April 21, 2025, the Montgomery Board of Elections unanimously approved 58 ballot drop box locations for the 2026 Gubernatorial Primary and General Elections.  The Board voted to retain all 58 locations used for the 2024 Presidential Primary and General Elections, including the additional drop boxes at each of Montgomery College’s three campuses (Rockville, Germantown, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring) that were added in 2024.

“Since 2020, the Board has placed drop boxes at early voting centers, public high schools, and at a number of senior communities and municipal buildings in response to requests from those communities,” Board President David Naimon said.  “In 2024, at the request of Montgomery College, we added drop boxes at the three Montgomery College campuses, which made voting more convenient for the more than 17,000 MC students, almost two-thirds of whom use public transportation to get to classes. In 2026, we are retaining all the same drop box locations across the county, which provide at least one drop box within two miles of the residences of 92% of Montgomery County voters.”

“We strongly encourage all those eligible to vote who would like to vote by mail-in ballot to take advantage of the drop boxes, an added convenient way to ensure safe and timely mail-in votes,” said Board Secretary Amie Hoeber. “Our bipartisan teams of election judges collect the mail-in ballots from drop boxes at least once daily, seven days a week, so mail-in ballot voters can be assured that your ballots will be delivered to us within one day. More than half of mail-in ballot voters used the drop boxes in 2024.”

With an increasing number of voters who vote by mail, the Board’s decision will provide for continuity of service by continuing to use locations used in the 2024 elections and further assist voters to return their voted mail-in ballots at accessible and convenient locations.  The decision emphasizes the Board’s efforts to facilitate collection of mail-in ballots through official election drop boxes located throughout the county.
