MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF VOTER INFORMATION GUIDES TO ENHANCE LANGUAGE ACCESSIBILITY AND INVITES BILINGUAL VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE AS ELECTION JUDGES FOR THE 2026 GUBERNATORIAL PRIMARY ELECTION

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 6, 2026

The Montgomery County Board of Elections has introduced additional resources to improve language accessibility for voters. In accordance with Section 203 of the 1975 Voting Rights Act, Spanish is provided, while Amharic, Chinese, and Vietnamese are available as part of Title 15.5 of the Maryland Election Law Article's Language Assistance Program. Additionally, French and Korean have been incorporated to accommodate a wider range of constituents. Voter Information Guides in seven languages are available at www.777vote.org

Given the county's diverse population, there is a need for voters fluent in Amharic, Chinese, , French, Korean, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages, including American Sign Language. Individuals proficient in both English and Spanish are particularly sought for each polling location to comply with Section 203 of the 1975 Voting Rights Act, which requires the presence of bilingual Spanish speakers at polling sites.

Registered voters 16 years old or older are eligible to serve as election poll workers. Each volunteer must demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the Maryland State Board of Elections, that they meet all qualifications for voter registration in the State. Students serving as election workers may choose to earn Student Service Learning (SSL) credits in lieu of the $250 stipend for a full day of service at a polling place. Voters who served at a polling place during the 2024 elections, will receive a $100 bonus per full day served ($50 for half-day shifts) during early voting and on Election Day. Position and stipend information are available at www.777vote.org, then select “Election Workers” tab, then select “Position Description/Payment” tab.

To serve in this paid volunteer position all election poll workers must be registered to vote in the State of Maryland, able to speak, read, and write the English language, and cannot hold, or be a candidate for, public or party office. In addition, election workers may not serve as campaign managers for a candidate or as treasurer for any campaign finance entity.

Training is required and will be provided to all election workers. This includes an online quiz, and in-person classroom training. Volunteers will be paid for completing training and working during Early Voting and/or Election Day. We offer several different positions, all-day and part day, as advertised at www.777vote.org.

To apply, text SERVE plus an email to 77788 (example: SERVE [email protected]) or online at www.777vote.org and select “Election Workers” tab, then “Getting Started” tab.
