MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS CERTIFIES 2026 PRIMARY ELECTION RETURNS

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 8, 2026

The Montgomery County Board of Elections has completed its vote counting for the 2026 primary elections and unanimously certified its 2026 Primary Election results on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.  Maryland law requires mail-in ballots in order to be counted to be postmarked by Election Day and received by 10 a.m. on the second Friday after the election (or the following business day when the second Friday is a holiday, as it was this year).  Certification can only come after all eligible ballots have been received and processed, and pre-certification audits are completed.

A total of 161,146 ballots were cast and counted with 22.99% of eligible voters casting ballots in Montgomery County, MD. The Official Pre-Election Canvass began on June 1, 2026 (as mandated by law, before Primary Election Day), and continued through Tuesday, July 7, 2026. During the canvass period, all timely eligible Mail-in and researched Provisional ballots were reviewed and tallied once verified. Board President David Naimon credited Montgomery County Election Director Boris Brajkovic and his hard-working staff, all of his Board colleagues, and the hundreds of election workers, and the thousands of election judges who helped process the mail-in ballots and the provisional ballots for this election’s certification.

Mr. Naimon said “We appreciate all of the planning and hard work that made the entire election process work well for county voters.”  Both Mr. Naimon and Board Secretary Amie Hoeber specifically want to thank the thousands of election judges who served during the Early Voting, Primary Election, and Canvass days and hope that their experience implementing the process supporting democracy in Montgomery County has been satisfying. “We look forward to – and hope for – their return to assist us in the General Election this fall,” they said.
