PUBLIC NOTICE: MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS WILL RECONVENE THE BOARD OF CANVASSERS

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 15, 2026

The Montgomery County Board of Elections will reconvene the Board of Canvassers on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the Board Room at the Board office (18753 N. Frederick Ave, Suite 210, Gaithersburg, MD 20879) to canvass an additional 19 Original mail-in ballots that were not previously canvassed. The Board plans on Thursday to vote to decertify the Gubernatorial Primary Election Results that were certified on July 8, to canvass the 19 additional ballots, scan the eligible ballots, and then certify the new results at approximately 2 p.m.

Following a State Board audit of the canvass of Original ballots, Montgomery County Board of Elections staff identified errors that occurred during the process of separating the Original ballots for voters who returned a replacement ballot (or cast a ballot through another eligible voting method) from those who only returned the Original mail-in ballot.  As a result, 19 eligible Original ballots from voters who did not vote any other way were not included in the previously certified results but should have been.

“Our short canvass meeting on Thursday is necessary to ensure that every eligible vote is counted and that election results are accurate and complete,” Board President David A. Naimon said.  “There won’t be enough eligible votes that we count on Thursday to change any of the previously certified winners, but counting those votes is part of our commitment to count every eligible vote.”
