Fire Prevention and Smoke Alarms

Councilmember Sidney Katz presented a proclamation celebrating the 40th anniversary of Montgomery County passing the first retroactive smoke alarm law in the United States. Through education, engineering and enforcement, Montgomery County has significantly reduced fire fatalities and smoke alarms remain one of the most critical residential safety devices in the fight against home fire deaths. The Council was joined by Brian Geraci, State Fire Marshal; Scott Goldstein, Fire Chief of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS); Mary Marchione, “First Lady of Fire,” retired from MCFRS; Beth Anne Nesselt, Manager, Community Outreach and Education; Dee Howard Richards, Assistant Chief, and Jim Resnick, Retired Battalion Chief.
