Sister City Gondar, Ethiopia

Montgomery County Councilmember Craig Rice led a delegation of 19 County residents on a historic trip to Gondar, Ethiopia. The County has a Sister City Agreement with Gondar. The group celebrated the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at the University of Gondar; and during their stay they met with the Mayor of Gondar, Dr. Muluken Adane, and directors from the Gondar City Council and participated in a park dedication and Ethiopia’s annual three-day Timket celebration. The delegation included staff from Montgomery College, Sister City members, religious group leaders and community members at large. The County Sister Cities Ethiopia program was established in 2012 to strengthen ties between the Ethiopian community in Maryland and Ethiopia.
