At the HAND Annual Meeting, County Executive Marc Elrich noted the County has effectively eliminated veterans’ homelessness and is pursuing many avenues to protect and create more affordable housing. He said the County needs to do more to preserve existing affordable housing units and protect tenants who live in properties being upgraded. Further, he said the County seeks to create more paths to homeownership – such as partnering with developers to buy apartment buildings in which tenants are enabled to purchase their unit. Elrich added the County also is pursuing ways to support aging in place and, identifying ways to help interested older residents find a housemate.
