Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal, on Sunday, March 20, will receive the Public Service Award from The ARC Montgomery County. The award will be presented at 5:30 p.m. at The ARC Community, Staff and Volunteer Awards Dinner, which is being held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Bethesda, Md. This is an annual event to recognize those who have made a positive impact on the organization.
The ARC identifies, creates and sustains inclusive communities that embrace and engage individuals and families affected by intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization is at the forefront of creating intentionally diverse, barrier-free environments for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The ARC Public Service Award is presented to an individual who has performed an outstanding service on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization is specifically recognizing Councilmember Leventhal for his efforts to restore County funding cuts to the developmentally disabled supplement that the County Executive had proposed cutting as part of his savings plan last year.
“Receiving this award is extremely important to me,” said Councilmember George Leventhal, who chairs the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee. “Working with The ARC throughout the years, I see the difference that the organization is making in the lives of those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Being able to help this effort is one of the best parts of my job.”
