Montgomery District 4 Special Primaries: Nancy Navarro, Robin Ficker Official Winners
Winners, Along With Green Party Candidate George Gluck, Will Meet in May 19 Special General Election to Fill Vacant Council Seat Representing Eastern Part of County
ROCKVILLE, May 4, 2009—Nancy Navarro won the Democratic primary and Robin Ficker won the Republican primary as Montgomery County District 4 (Eastern County) voters selected candidates to run in the special general election to fill the district’s vacant County Council seat. The special primary was held April 21. The official results were certified by the County Board of Elections on May 1.
The primary winners, along with Green Party candidate George Gluck (who was endorsed by his party and did not have to run in a primary), will meet in the special general election on Tuesday, May 19.
District 4 includes all or parts of Aspen Hill, Burtonsville, Calverton, Cloverly, Colesville, Derwood, Fairland, Olney, Sandy Spring, Silver Spring, Spencerville, Wheaton and White Oak. The District 4 Council seat has been vacant since the passing of Councilmember Don Praisner in January.
There are 96,524 registered voters in District 4. Votes were cast by 10,902 (11.29 percent). There were six candidates in the Democratic Primary and three candidates in the Republican Primary.
In the Democratic primary, Nancy Navarro won with 3,881 votes (44.52 percent). Her margin of victory was 62 votes over second-place finisher Ben Kramer with 3,819 votes (43.81 percent). In the Republican primary, Robin Ficker won with 1,240 votes (58.05 percent). Second-place finisher Louis August had 589 votes (25.57 percent).
