For Immediate Release: Friday, July 16, 2004
The new 1,500-space parking garage at the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station opened earlier this month. While the garage serves transit users during the day, others, including Strathmore Hall patrons, can use the facility and are likely to find ample parking in the evening when Strathmore events are scheduled.
Strathmore patrons have various parking options conveniently located nearby. The garage contains 1,500 spaces. Next to the garage to the south is a 300+ space surface lot. PATRONS NEED TO BE ADVISED THAT METRO NOW OPERATES ITS PARKING UNDER A CASHLESS ARRANGEMENT: if you do not already have a Smart Trip Card, you must purchase one at the rail station's mezzanine to use upon exiting the garage or lot. Smart Trip Cards are sold from dispensers at a cost of $10. This covers the initial card cost of $5 plus loads $5 onto the card for use in the Metro system for parking, rail, or bus fees. THE COST OF PARKING AT THIS STATION IS $4. Gates are in operation from 5:30 AM to 12:00 AM Mondays through Thursdays, and from 5:30 AM to 3:00 AM on Fridays. Parking is free on the weekends. The garage and lot are operated by Metro. On-street meters are also conveniently located along Tuckerman Lane east of Rockville Pike. These meters currently allow for 12 hours of parking at the rate of 35 cents an hour. They are operated by the County's Parking Operations section.
