County Executive Doug Duncan celebrated the grand opening of the new Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center on December first. The roughly $80 million project is a public/private partnership with Montgomery County and the State of Maryland each contributing $20 million for the Conference Center and Quadrangle Development Corporation and its partners financing the hotel.
Oversight of the project was handled by the County's Department of Economic Development, with project management support provided by DPWT's Division of Capital Development. The project was built under contract by Hitt Contracting, Inc. The Maryland Stadium Authority was the project manager. RTKL was the architectural firm handling design of the center. The conference center features nearly 35,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including 21 meeting rooms and a 23,000 square-foot ballroom, the third largest in the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area. The ballroom will be able to accommodate meetings ranging from 200 to 1,600 people, as well as receptions for up to 2,535 and banquets for up to 1,820 people. The conference center is owned by the Department of Economic Development. The Marriott corporation will manage both the hotel and conference center. The Marriott Bethesda North Hotel and Conference Center is situated at 5701 Marinelli Road at Rockville Pike. Ample parking is available on site, and the Metro Red Line is adjacent to the center at the White Flint station. Ride On routes 5, 26, 38, 46, and 81 and Metrobus route C8 also serve the center.
