For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 7, 2018
Construction began in July to replace the 1931-vintage Park Valley Road Bridge over Sligo Creek with a wider bridge and sidewalk. The project also includes the realignment of a portion of the Sligo Creek Trail to enhance pedestrian and bicycle access and safety.
During reconstruction, the bridge is closed to vehicular traffic until the completion of the project in fall 2019. A 1.2-mile vehicle detour uses Park Valley Road, Piney Branch Road and Sligo Creek Parkway.
The Sligo Creek Trail will be available throughout construction, first through the existing trail and roadway bridge and then through a new trail and pedestrian bridge that is being constructed as part of the project. When the existing roadway bridge is demolished, pedestrian and bicycle access to the Sligo Creek Trail from the north will be available through Park Crest Drive and Devon Road and from the south, through Park Crest Drive and Hilltop Road.
