Have a bike that’s no longer needed? On Friday, October 26, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will once again sponsor a bike collection during this year’s Community Service Week celebration. Donate bicycles, bicycle parts, and/or helmets from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The collection will be held at the Council Office Building parking garage in Rockville outside the entrance on East Jefferson Street at its intersection with Monroe Street.
Donations go to the Rockville Bike Hub, a non-profit organization whose volunteers refurbish the bikes and then give them to low-income residents in the County through Rockville’s Terrific Kids and the County’s Linkages to Learning programs. This year, Bikes for the World is partnering with Rockville Bike Hub to accept donations of bikes that are beyond Rockville Bike Hub’s ability to repair. Residents may also donate by check to Rockville Bike Hub during the collection. All donated funds will be used to purchase bike helmets and parts to repair the bikes.
Last year, 120 child and adult bikes were collected along with 21 bike helmets, bike wheels, training wheels and bike gears.
