Press Releases - Department of Transportation

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 24, 2023

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a hybrid meeting to present the proposed Amherst Avenue Bikeway project in Wheaton. The public will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments.

The Amherst Avenue Bikeway project provides for the design and construction of a 2-way cycle track for an approximately 1.1-mile section of westbound Amherst Avenue between Windham Lane and Arcola Avenue.  The Amherst Avenue Bikeway Project is identified in the Bicycle Master Plan as one of the highest-priority bikeways in the Wheaton Central Business District (CBD) in Montgomery County.  Located just a block from and parallel to Georgia Avenue (MD 97), this project would substantially improve bicyclist safety and connectivity for people of all ages and bicycling abilities biking to and through the Wheaton CBD by installing an on-road bikeway.

Online registration is required. The virtual meeting link will be emailed the morning of the meeting. This meeting will be accessible both in-person  and virtually.  The in-person meeting will be held at the County Building in Wheaton located at 2425 Reedie Drive in Wheaton and simultaneously broadcast live via Zoom.

The public is encouraged to review the project files posted on the project website under Project Documents prior to attending the meeting. Meeting materials will be posted on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Written comments or questions may be submitted to the Project Manager, Angel Cheng by an Online Comment Form or by email to [email protected].  Written testimony carries the same weight as oral testimony.

Interpreter services will be provided upon request with five business days’ advance notice by contacting Angel Cheng.
