For Immediate Release: Monday, March 4, 2024
On Thursday, March 14, starting at 2 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a virtual public hearing to discuss the possible disposition of 1200 Spring Street (Public Parking Garage 2) located in and managed by the Silver Spring Parking Lot District (PLD) to support a redevelopment initiative to expand a major biotechnology company’s Co-Headquarter Campus in Silver Spring. Residents will have an opportunity to provide feedback.
In accordance with County regulation, a preliminary reuse analysis of the property at 1200 Spring Street was conducted by MCDOT and the Office of Management and Budget. It was determined that the property is not identified for reuse in an applicable Master Plan or approved Capital Improvement Project (CIP). However, the current proposal does align with the Silver Spring Downtown and Approved Facilities Plan 2022.
Parking Garage 2 is a 1,311-space public parking garage in and managed by the Silver Spring PLD, which includes a Parking Operations Service Facility Building and a County Data Fiber Hub. MCDOT’s proposal seeks to dispose of this property as part of a redevelopment initiative to support the expansion of a biotechnology company's co-headquarter Campus in Silver Spring. This redevelopment would provide the County with modernized facilities, including a new 675-space public parking garage, a new parking operation building, and a new Level 4 County Fiber Hub.
Online registration is required by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13 to attend. The day before the public hearing, an email with a Zoom link will be sent to registrants via email. Written testimony carries the same weight as oral testimony. Testimony and information provided will become a matter of public record.
