For Immediate Release: Thursday, March 7, 2024

Due to a temporary Metrorail shutdown between Friendship Heights and Grosvenor stations, Bethesda and Medical Center Metrorail stations will be closed Saturday, March 9 through Sunday, March 10 and Saturday, March 16 through Sunday, March 17.

WMATA will provide express shuttle buses to and from Friendship Heights and Grosvenor, and local shuttles to and from Friendship Heights and Grosvenor via Bethesda and Medical Center to replace trains. To accommodate shuttle service, the following Ride On bus bays will be relocated:

Friendship Heights

  • Ride On Route 34: Will temporarily relocate from Bus Bay K to Bay D 
  • Route L8 (Run by Ride On Weekends Only): Will temporarily relocate from Bus Bay K to Bay E
  • Express and Local Shuttles: Bus Bay K (service stop northbound on Wisconsin Avenue, far side of Western Avenue)
  • Bus Bay D: Shared with a community shuttle that operates every 50 minutes on weekends
  • Bus Bay E: Shared with Metrobus N6 that operates every 45 minutes on weekends

Bethesda

  • Local Northbound Shuttle to Grosvenor:  Bus Bay B
  • Local Southbound Shuttle to Friendship Heights:  Bus Bay C

Medical Center

  • Local Northbound Shuttle to Grosvenor: Bus Bay E
  • Local Southbound Shuttle to Friendship Heights: Service stop southbound on Rockville Pike, far side of South Drive

Grosvenor

  • Express Shuttle:  Bus Bay F
  • Local Shuttle:  Bus Bay G

Ride On bus fare is only $1 and monthly passes are $22.50 using SmarTrip, cash, or tokens. Seniors age 65 or older,  persons with disabilities and youth ages 18 and under all ride free using specialized SmarTrip cards.

The Ride On Trip Planner app is a free regional public transportation planner that will find your fastest route.
