Press Releases - Department of Transportation

For Immediate Release: Thursday, April 3, 2025

On Monday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a virtual (online) public hearing to discuss a requested Leighton Avenue access restriction in Silver Spring. The public will have an opportunity to provide testimony and ask questions.

The project provides for the installation of a regulatory sign to restrict right turns from westbound Franklin Avenue onto Leighton Avenue from 7 – 9 a.m. and from 4 – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The request was made by residents of Leighton Avenue, in accordance with Executive Regulation 17-94AM, “Through Traffic Volume Access Restrictions in Residential Areas.”

Please register online to attend the meeting virtually. After registering, the Zoom platform will send attendees an email containing the Zoom link and passcode needed to attend the virtual meeting.

At the public hearing, MCDOT will present project details and the project schedule. MCDOT will also obtain public testimony and answer questions. Public input is encouraged and may influence the final decision to approve or deny the requested access restriction.

The public is encouraged to visit the project website and provide feedback via the online comment form or by email to the Project Manager, Kadidja Ayeva at [email protected]. Written comments carry the same weight as oral comments. All information provided will become a matter of public record.

Interpreter services will be provided upon request with five business days advance notice. To request interpreter services, email Lori Main at [email protected] or call 240-777-7271 no later than Friday, April 18.
