For Immediate Release: Friday, March 30, 2012
Customers of the Olney Library, which is currently closed for major renovations, will be able to check out current materials and return borrowed materials beginning March 31 when the new kiosk library service (MCPL Express @ Olney) becomes available at the Longwood Community Center at 19300 Georgia Ave. By mid-April, customers also will be able to pick up holds.
The kiosk service is made up of four elements: • Lending Library Kiosk with adult fiction and nonfiction, CD books, children’s fiction books, picture books and beginner reader books; • Media Box Kiosk with DVDs for adults and children; • Book Return; and • Holds Lockers (coming mid-April).
The kiosks will operate Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed on Friday and Sunday.
Customers must bring their Montgomery County Public Library (MCPL) cards to check out items since the card must be scanned. A maximum of 50 items total can be checked out on a library card at any one time, including a maximum of 15 DVDs. Items from the Lending Library Kiosk can be placed inside the book return at the Longwood Community Center or at any MCPL branch library.
“When the Executive asked us to find a solution,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton, “we worked with our partners in the Departments of General Services and Recreation and came up with what we feel to be an innovative solution that benefits the community by providing basic interim services.”
The Longwood site has several advantages,” Hamilton noted. “The center provides an indoor location monitored by County staff, there is plenty of parking and the facility is ADA accessible. We are looking forward to serving the Olney community at this site.” Read more details about the MCPL Express @ Olney by visiting http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/Apps/Libraries/branchinfo/ol.asp.
