Montgomery County Recreation is hosting the following safe, fun-filled family-friendly events this Halloween season. All activities are free unless otherwise noted:

Children

• Oct. 23, 24, 30, 7-9 p.m. Halloween Party and Parade. Damascus Community Center, 25520 Oak Dr. Ages 5-12. Participants can wear Halloween costumes and enjoy activities that include face painting, games, goodie bags and participant parade. Pre-registration is recommended. • Oct. 23, 7-9 p.m. Club Friday Halloween. Germantown Community Center, 18905 Kingsview Dr. School year membership fee is $52, guests are $5 each. Grades 3-6. Games, crafts, movies, sports, DJs/dancers, special events, prizes, snack bar, raffles and theme nights. Register at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec. Call 240-777-8095 for more information.

• Oct. 24, noon-2 p.m. Halloween Extravaganza. East County Community Center, 3310 Gateshead Manor Way, Silver Spring. Grades k-5. Refreshments, hot dogs, candy and costumes. On-site registration. Call 240-777-8090 for more information.

• Oct. 25, 4-6 p.m. Haunted House. Clara Barton Community Center, 7425 MacArthur Blvd., Cabin John. Age 12 and younger. Costumes are welcomed, free photos by a professional photographer. Event is organized by Friends of Clara Barton. Call 240-777-4910 for more information.

• Oct. 30, 7-10 p.m. Halloween Haunted House. Long Branch Community Center, 8700 Piney Branch Rd., Silver Spring. Halloween costume contest. Call 240-777-6965 for more information.

• Oct. 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Halloween Happening. Marilyn Praisner Community Center, 14906 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring. Ages 12 and younger. Parents are asked to donate unopened bags of individually wrapped candy. Call 240-777-4970 for more information.

• Oct. 30, 4-7 p.m. Halloween at Scotland Community Center, 7700 Scotland Dr., Potomac. Games, DJ, popcorn, candies and costumes. Children and teens. Call 240-777-8075 for more information.

• Oct. 30, 7-9 p.m. Club Friday Halloween Celebration, Longwood Community Center, 19300 Georgia Ave., Brookeville. School year membership fee is $52 for grades 3-5. Guests pay $5. • Oct. 31, 5-8 p.m. Masquerade Festival, Plum Gar Community Center, 19561 Scenery Dr., Germantown. Grades k-6. Music, games, food and fun. Call 240-777-4919 for more information.

• Oct. 30, 5-8 p.m. Halloween Family Game Night, Mid-County Community Center, 2004 Queensguard Rd., Silver Spring. Games, Zumba, arts and crafts, costumes if desired. Call 240-777-6820 for more information.

• Oct. 23, 24, 30, 7:30-10 p.m. Haunted Murkwood Forest.- SCARY! Damascus Community Center, 25520 Oak Dr., $13 per person. Ages 12 and older. This now-legendary haunted forest kicks off the Halloween season perfectly. Ghosts are flying, the chainsaw is roaring and body parts are everywhere. Partake in a scary walk through the wilderness, holding tight to the closest body still breathing! Calm your nerves with cider and s'mores once you’re done. Adults
• Oct. 31, 7-11 p.m. Halloween Hand Dance Party. Marilyn J. Praisner Community Center, 14906 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville. $10 in advance, $15 day of the event (cash only). Ages 21 and older. Costumes welcome. Proceeds to benefit the Friends of Recreation. Sponsored by the Praisner Advisory Committee. Contact Germaine for tickets at 240-328-7506.

Adults, Ages 55 and older
• Oct. 21, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Staying Safe this Halloween. Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Dr., Silver Spring. Officer Oliver Janney provides information to keep you safe while trick-or-treating with the little ones. Call 240-777-4999 for more information.

• Oct. 28, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Halloween at Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Dr., Silver Spring. This intergenerational event brings together grandparents and grandchildren for a night of games, spooky stories and lots of candy. Call 240-777-4999 for more information.

• Oct. 29, noon-1 p.m. Halloween Luncheon. Damascus Senior Center, 25520 Oak Dr. Ages 55-69.Cost for the meal is $7; donations requested for ages 70 and above. Call 240-777-6995 for more information.

• Oct. 29, 1-2 p.m. Halloween Celebration: Anna Pappas’ “A Class Act.” Damascus Senior Center, 25520 Oak Dr. Call 240-777-6995 for more information.

• Oct. 30, 1-3 p.m. Halloween Party. Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Dr., Silver Spring. Admission is $5 or $3 with HPSI card. Creative costumes encouraged, group photo booth and dancing to the Night and Day Band. Pre-sale tickets only. Call 240-777-4999 for more information.

• Oct. 30, 1-2 p.m. Senior Feud: Halloween Edition. Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center, 1000 Forest Glen Rd., Silver Spring. Join Center Director Amanda for the center’s version of “Family Feud.” Participant registration available at the front desk. Call 240-777-8085 for more information.

Therapeutic Recreation
• Oct. 31, 7-10 p.m. Haunted Mansion for those with disabilities and their families. Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Dr., Silver Spring. $8. Dare to enter the frightful house where ghosts, creepy critters or Scooby Doo and the gang might be found. Prizes awarded for most creative and fun costumes.
