Montgomery Councilmember Craig Rice, MCPS COO Andrew Zuckerman, Montgomery College President Pollard to Begin Series of Education Forums on Monday, March 2. At 6:30 p.m. at Silver Spring Civic Building

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Montgomery County Council Education Committee Chair Craig Rice, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Acting Chief Operating Officer Andrew Zuckerman and Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2, will host the first of five public forums they will hold to provide information, and seek input, on the programs and budgets of the County’s public school system and its community college. The first forum will be held at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

The Silver Spring Civic Building is located at 1 Veterans Place in Downtown Silver Spring. The first forum is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The series of Education Budget Meetings will continue at Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring on March 9; Gaithersburg High School on March 11; Kingsview Middle School in Germantown on March 16; and Churchill High School in Potomac on March 23.

“These forums will provide an opportunity for residents to have their questions answered about the education budgets at both the State and County level from kindergarten through the early years of college,” said Councilmember Rice. “We will talk about how budget decisions are made, and will work to explain the circumstances concerning the new budget we are addressing for the fiscal year that begins on July 1. We also will discuss the opportunities residents will have to influence budget decisions. And in this early stage of the budget process, we want to hear from residents about their concerns, their priorities and how they fit with the amount of funding available.”
